Odisha’s Sona Mohapatra lends voice for Marathi film ‘Ghaat’

Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born Bollywood singer Sona Mohapatra, who has left her fans disappointed as she has no songs in ‘Fukrey Returns’ (releasing tomorrow), a sequel to 2013 super hit ‘Fukrey’ in which her Ambarsariya song became a chartbuster then, gave another reason to her followers to rejoice.

The popular singer, known for her energetic live performances, has now given her voice for song in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Ghaat’, which is a rare of sorts for any artists from the State.

Sona recently recorded a devotional song on Dnyanoba Mauli, with the wordings ‘Ghumla Gajar Aabhali, Dnyanaraj Majhi Mauli..‘ . Lyrics of this song are penned by Vaibhav Deshmukh with the music provided by Rohit Nagbhide.

She is quite happy with her renditions and confident that the song will be applauded by her fans and music lovers.

Speaking to OST, an elated Sona said: “I thoroughly enjoyed singing this devotional song. With beautiful wordings and good composition, I am sure it will touch the hearts of Marathi audience.”

The film does not have any songs, but the producers wanted at least a promotional song, so a Bhakti geet on Lord Vitthala was composed by Rohit Nagbhide on the lyrics of Vaibhav Deshmukh.

The trailer shows the glimpses of life on the Ghaat of Alandi and the families living in poverty trying to meet ends. It also shows the friendship of the two protagonist Manya and Papya, who are best friends.

‘Ghat’ is produced by Sachin Jare under the banner of Jare Entertainments and directed by Raj Gorde. The film also stars Mitali Jagtap, Umesh Jagtap, Riya Gawali in important roles.

The film, which has bagged the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival Award earlier this year, is releasing on December 15.
