Odisha’s Vyasanagar civic body chief goes on 3-month leave

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Jajpur, Jan 25:

Four days after a no-trust motion against the Vyasanagar Municipality Chairperson Sabita Rout was rejected, the civic body chief has gone on a three-month leave from today on health grounds.

According to reports, Sabita has written letters to District Collector Ranjan Kumar Das, Korei MLA Akash Dasnayak and Vice Chairman Subas Bal about her absence from office for a period of three months beginning today.

She would be on leave till April 23 and Vice Chairman would be in charge during this period, reports said.

Notably, a no-trust motion against her failed on January 21 as no councilor turned up for voting. At least 13 BJD councillors of the Municipality had moved the no-confidence motion in December last year and the voting was scheduled on Saturday.

This was the second time the no-confidence motion was brought against her in a span of four months.

On December 28 last year, the Vyasanagar civic body chief was suspended from the BJD on charges of anti-party activities.
