Odisha’s youngest Scuba Diver sets benchmark; dives 40ft in Gulf of Oman

Bhubaneswar/Dubai: A 10-year-old Dubai-based Odisha girl, who was declared the State’s Youngest Scuba Diver in August this year, has notched a benchmark by diving 40 feet deep in the Gulf of Oman off the United Arab Emirates (UAE) coast.

On October 9, Tisya Panigrahi dived at two popular dive sites of the UAE- ‘Hole in the Wall’ where she dived 37 feet deep and ‘Martini Rock’, where she went down 40 feet deep. She was accompanied in the adventure by her father Priyadarshee Panigrahi, a certified Open Water Scuba Diver.

The 10-year-old diver headed for the adventure after receiving her Junior Open Water Scuba Diver’s Licence from PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), for which she had qualified on August 22, 2020.

Sharing her diving experience, Tisya said, “The underwater world is very beautiful and colorful. I saw different types of fishes and corals. You feel weightless in the calm and peaceful underwater environment.”

Priyadarshee Panigrahi said his scuba diving experience as his daughter’s diving ‘buddy’ was surreal. “It’s a great feeling to hold your daughter’s hand and explore the secrets of the sea,” he expressed.

Holding roots from Odisha’s Sambalpur and Cuttack districts, Tisya  now lives with her parents in Dubai.
