Odissi, Jhumura, Sahi Jata Nacha to be part of Republic Day parade at New Delhi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s classical dance Odissi, Keonjhar’s tribal dance Jhumura and Sahi Jata Nacha of Puri will be showcased at the Republic Day parade at New Delhi on January 26.

The 10-minute performance comprising a total of seven classical and folk dance forms will follow Ministry of Culture’s tableau at the parade ceremony. The theme of the performance will be women empowerment.

Odisha’s Kavita Dwivedi is among the four choreographers of the performance. As many as nine Odissi dancers, six Jhumura dancers and four Sahi Jata performers will participate in the dance.

“We are proud to showcase the culture of Odisha at the Republic Day parade. The dancers were selected during the Vande Bharatam dance competitions organised by the Ministries of Defence and Culture across the country last year,” said Dwivedi.
