OHRC seeks report from Odisha govt on Sum Hospital fire

The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) today served notices to the state Health Secretary and Director General (Fire Services) to submit a report within three weeks on the fire tragedy at Sum Hospital in which 20 people were killed and several others injured.

The OHRC issued the notices after it registered a suo motu case over the fire accident.

In a related development, human rights activist Subash Mohapatra has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking action against Sum Hospital authorities and state government officials for their negligence in ensuring safety measures.

Mohapatra has urged the NHRC to direct the state government to conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter and submit a report within a week.
