‘Olly’ to be permanent mascot for all sports events in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In view of popularity gained during Asian Athletics Championships, Odisha government decided to make ‘Olly’ the permanent mascot for all sports events both national and international championships to be held in the State, informed Sports and Youth Services Secretary Vishal Dev here on Friday.

With the move, ‘Olly’ will be the official mascot of upcoming World Hockey League finals and Hockey World Cup scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar from December 1-10 this year and November 24-December 16, 2018 respectively.

Odisha successfully hosted Asian Athletics Championships 2017 at Kalinga Stadium unveiling ‘Olly’ as mascot for the games. The 22nd edition of the international event was held from July 6-9.

Olly represents endangered Olive Ridley sea turtle that arrives in large numbers at Odisha coast every year for nesting and laying eggs.
