Olympics: Dutee Chand finishes last in 200m heat, fails to qualify for semifinals
Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand failed to qualify for the semifinals of the women’s 200m event in Tokyo Olympics as she finished last (7th) in heat 4 of the preliminary round, today.
Dutee clocked 23.85 seconds to complete the race and registered her season best performance. As per rules, first three athletes in each heat and next three fastest runners from all heats advance to the semifinals, which will be held today.
The final is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
Earlier, Dutee had on July 30 failed to qualify for semifinals of women’s 100m event as she managed to secure 7th place in heat 5 with a timing of 11.54 seconds.
The only athlete from Odisha to participate in the Tokyo Olympics, Dutee had qualified for the two events via world ranking quota.
