On the run for 7 yrs, main accused in Cuttack trader’s murder case arrested

Cuttack: After seven long years, the Commissionerate Police (CP) today arrested absconding Deepak Nayak alias Shankar, the main accused in the murder of trader Mohhamad Farook Tayab at Malgodown here in 2014.

The CP informed that Deepak (33), a resident of Ranihat Gopalasahi under Mangalabag police limits here was arrested from the railway station here today while he was about to leave for Chennai by train. The cops also seized a pistol along with two rounds of live ammunition from his possession.

Deepak is a close aide of jailed gangster brothers Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samanta. During interrogation, he confessed that he along with others committed the crime as per the direction of D-brothers.

The accused is booked under Sections 399, 402 of IPC and 25 and 27 of Arms Act at Malgodown police station. Another case under Section 25 and 27 of Arms Act is pending against him at Lalbag police station.

Farook, who was a wholesaler dealing with pulses at Malgodown here, was killed on November 12, 2014. Contract killers were hired to eliminate Farook, who was shot dead at his shop, as he refused to pay extortion money of Rs 30 lakh.

While four persons were arrested at that time,  Deepak managed to abscond. Besides, three other accused, including D-brothers were remanded in connection with the case.

Further investigation is underway, said the CP.
