Bhubaneswar, Sep 2:

An 18-year-old youth was injured today after another youth residing in the same area allegedly threw acid on him at Mochi Sahi slum near Old Station Bazaar area of the Odisha capital, Laxmisagar police sources said.

The victim, Tapas Sahu, who hails from Bhadrak district and is presently staying at Mochi Sahi slum here, was returning home from the market this afternoon when the incident occurred. The victim sustained injuries on his chest, hand and leg.

After the incident, Sahu lodged a complaint with the local police against the youth who attacked him. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested one Nunu Babu Soni (25) from Jamalpur in Khajuria district of Bihar, who is presently staying at the same Mochi Sahi slum.

According to the police, Soni and Sahu had an argument over a silly matter this afternoon. Irked over Sahu’s comment on him, Soni suddenly threw the acid on the former’s body.

Though it is not confirmed yet which acid was used in the attack, police sources said that the acid thrown on the youth was the diluted stuff that is normally used for washing utensils and thus did not serious damage to the victim’s body as acid of higher potency could have done.
