One killed, 15 injured as tourist bus rams truck in Odisha

At least one person was killed and 15 others were critically injured when a Puri-bound tourist bus in which they were travelling hit a truck from behind on NH-5 near Manjaripur under Simulia block in Odisha’s Baleswar district this morning.

According to reports, four persons sustained critical injuries in the mishap of which one traveller succumbed and three others were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The 15 others who had sustained injuries were provided treatment at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital.

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at the local medical facility.

A bus carrying 47 tourists from 24 Parganas in West Bengal was on its way to Puri when the mishap occurred near Baleswar.

“The tourist bus from Kolkata was going to Puri. The bus hit a stone-laden moving truck from behind on National Highway 5 near Manjaripur under Simulia block at around 4 am today. Four of them sustained critical injuries,” police said.

Notably, a tourist succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital. Three others were shifted to SCB Medical College as their condition deteriorated.

The dense fog condition prevailing since last few days might have reduced the visibility on the road following which the mishap might have occurred, sources said.
