One more COVID-19 patient dies in Odisha; 251 fresh cases in last 24 hrs

Bhubaneswar: One more COVID-19 patient in Odisha died due to other health complications. The deceased was a 52-year-old male from Ganjam district, said the Health and Family Welfare Department today.

With this, the number of COVID-19 patients, who died due to other health complications, rose to eight.

“Regret to inform that a 52-year-old male COVID positive patient of Ganjam district passed away due to terminal cancer of the lungs with brain metastasis,” said the department.

Meanwhile, 251 more persons tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the state’s total count to 7316.

Ganjam reported the highest 102 new cases. Of the total fresh cases, 208 have been detected from quarantine  centres while remaining 43 are local contacts. Contact tracing and followup action is underway, said the department.

Of the total fresh cases, 250 have been reported from 19 districts: Angul (1), Balasore (2), Bargarh (12 ), Balangir (4), Cuttack (32), Deogarh (4), Gajapati (6), Ganjam (102), Jharsuguda (5), Kendrapada (4 ), Khordha(26), Malkangiri (10), Mayurbhanj (5), Nayagarh (14), Puri (12), Sambalpur (2), Sonepur (1), Sundargarh (7) and Jajpur (1). Rest one case is a NFRF personnel, who was under quarantine, after returning  from cyclone Amphan duty in West Bengal.

Currently, the number of active cases in the state stands at 2094. However,  5189 patients have so far recovered from the disease  while 25 succumbed to the virus.
