Balasore: One more staff of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Chandipur, was arrested in connection with espionage case here in the district.
The accused person has been identified as Sachin Kumar, a driver at Chandipur DRDO.
With his arrest, the number of arrestees in Chandipur ITR data leak case rose to five so far.
On Tuesday, Odisha Police had arrested four contractual employees of DRDO from the Integrated Test Range facility in Chandipur for allegedly leaking secrets to a Pakistani agent. The accused persons were - Basanta Behera (52), AC operator; Hemanta Kumar Mistri (52), diesel genset operator; Tapas Ranjan Nayak (41), employee at ITR main gate; and Sk. Musafir (32), AC operator - all from Balasore district.
The four have been booked under sections 120-B/121-A/34 of the Indian Penal Code and sent on a 14-day judicial custody.
The case was handed over to the State Crime Branch on Wednesday.
According to reports, the accused DRDO employees were allegedly honey-trapped and spying for an ISI agent.
Police source said that they had a link with a woman in Pakistan who is said to be an ISI agent. They were allured for passing secret information on to the ISI.
The woman was allegedly contacting them on social media. The four were allegedly paid huge amount in exchange of leaking DRDO's data.
