One more elephant dies at Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: A female elephant died at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) on the outskirts of Odisha capital.

The seven-year-old elephant Kamala died due to suspected Herpes infection, sources said.

It may be mentioned here that three elephants died at the zoo in less than a month’s time.

With the death of Kamala today, there are only five more female elephants left at the famous zoo.

On September 15, the only male elephant at the zoo – Chandan – had died and on August 25, female elephant Julie had also died.

Chandan had succumbed to Herpes virus infection. Following this, the zoo authorities had administered preventive treatment to the remaining pachyderms.
