One more elephant found dead in Odisha forest

Cuttack: Seems like elephants are not safe in Odisha as another tusker was found dead in forest area of Cuttack district today.

The deceased tusker is said to be aged about 20 years. The elephant was found dead in a cashew forest under Athagarh forest division.

As there was an injury mark on its trunk, it is suspected that the tusker was hunted for ivory. However, the reason of death is yet to be ascertained. The Forest officials started investigation into death of the wild elephant.

Last tear, a tusker was shot dead in Athagarh forest division in Cuttack district. In January this year, an elephant was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Sankhapoi forest under the same forest division.

In December last year, three forest officials had allegedly killed a tusker, removed ivory and burnt the body to destroy evidence at Similipal forest.
