One more residential school girl impregnated in Odisha

Udala: Incidents of minor girls being pregnant continue to haunt residential schools in Odisha with one more case reported from Mayurbhanj district.

In the latest incident, a Class 9 girl student of a residential school in Udala area of Mayurbhan district was found pregnant. The incident came to the fore after the Headmaster of the school lodged a complaint at Udala police station in this regard.

Sources said the student was resident of Kaptipada police station area.

Acting on the complaint, the police began an investigation into the incident. The cops also sent the girl to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada for medical examination. However, the circumstances under which the girl became pregnant are yet to be known.

As per latest reports, the district administration suspended the school Matron and ordered transfer of the Headmaster in connection with the incident.

Earlier on February 6, a Class-VI student of Mohanpur Ashram School under Morada police limits, was found pregnant after she was admitted to the PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada. Later, police had detained a boy student of the same class following a complaint lodged by the school authorities.

Earlier, similar shameful incidents were reported from Dhenkanal and Kalahandi districts.

Last month, a Class 8 girl student had of a residential school in Daringbadi area of Kandhamal district had delivered a baby creating much hue and cry in State.
