One more tests COVID-19 positive in Odisha; count rises to 143

Bhubaneswar: The total count of COVID-19 positive cases in the state surged to 143 after one more person tested positive for the virus, the Health and Family Welfare Department informed today. 

The fresh case is 58-year-old male of Kanheibindha area under Simulia block in Balasore district. He was asymptomatic and has travel history to Kolkata.

Reportedly, the man was intercepted by police personnel near Bhograi last week while he was returning to his house from Kolkata on a bicycle. Later, he was sent to RIHS quarantine centre and his swab sample was collected for testing.  Late on Thursday, his report came positive. This morning, district administrative and health officials visited the quarantine centre for inspection. Followup action is underway.

With this, the total number of positive cases in the district reached 20, all are active.

Yesterday, the state reported a steep spike with 17 new COVID-19 cases. Out of the 17 patients, 14 were reported from Katikata area of Jajpur district.

The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 101. While 41 patients have so far recovered, one succumbed to the infection. Khordha has highest 47 number of positive cases followed by Jajpur and Balasore with 36 and 20 cases, respectively.
