One needs a beautiful heart to win beauty contest: Sonika

The gorgeous beauty of Odisha, Sonika Roy, who was recently crowned as the Miss Asia Pacific International India 2017, wants to climb one more step in her modeling career making her goal firm. She is eyeing to win Miss Asia Pacific International 2017 beauty pageant scheduled in November in Philippines. For her, one needs a beautiful heart apart from looks and body to bag the beauty title.

After losing her mother at early age and father recently, she never lost hope and confidence. She moved on to meet her targets. She entered into modeling industry in the year 2014, when she won second spot at Miss Odisha India beauty competition. Then she never looked back. Sonika was in top 12 in FBB Femina Miss India 2015 and 2017 beauty contests. With the recent victory at Miss Asia Pacific International India 2017, she will now represent India at 2017 edition of Miss Asia Pacific International in Philippines.

Here is the complete conversation with Sonika after winning the Miss Asia Pacific International India crown in Bhubaneswar on June 3.

Q. Say briefly about Miss Asia Pacific International India?

Ans. I won the title among seven contestants shortlisted out of 40 profiles across the country. There are no runners up title in the contest. The beauty pageant has only Miss India crown. Earlier, Bollywood diva Dia Mirza and Zeenat Aman had bagged the title. I am going to participate in Miss Asia Pacific International in Philippines to go through a tough competition with the contestants from 75 countries.

Q. What is the status of Odisha in fashion world?

Ans. The fashion industry is on rise in Odisha in the past few years. If there was no fashion in Odisha, I would not have been here today. With participating in the beauty contests, the girls like me succeeded to gain knowledge about fashion and dressing style of other countries. We used to share ideas and knowledge about fashion and modeling with our friends and relatives here and it really helps the fashion world to progress here in Odisha.

Q. Do you have any planning to switch to Bollywood after Odia and Tamil films?

Ans. To become a good actress along with a model was my childhood dream. After returning from Femina Miss India 2015 beauty contest, Ollywood director Sanjay Nayak was the first to offer me Odia film. I have done two films ‘Rangila Baba’ (Odia film) and ‘Richi’ (Tamil film). I have an offer from Telugu film industry. Like everyone, I also want to go to Bollywood. I will definitely move if get opportunity.

Q. Normally, there is a negative thought towards glamour world. Do you agree?

Ans. No field is bad. Every field has something good and bad. It depends on yourself how you deal with it.

Q. What message will you give for the young generations, who want to take up modeling as career?

Ans. A beautiful heart is required to win a beauty contest apart from beautiful body and face. A good personality and attitude gets developed from a beautiful heart, which attracts everyone.

Q. Who is your ideal in the industry?

Ans. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra.

Q. Whom will you give the credit for your success?

Ans. My late parents and my dear Odisha people

Q. Do you want to do something for Odisha after returning from beauty pageant?

Ans. I have a plan to open a modeling institute in Odisha after my way back to the state from Philippines. I want to train Odisha girls and send them outside for participating in various beauty competitions.
