Odisha Sun Times Bureau:
Bhubaneswar, December 17:

It’s certainly not a part of Mills and Boon romantic and fiction series. Rather, a real love story which witnessed inescapable emotional upheavals till it solemnised in typical Odia marriage on Tuesday.

Sheetal Sharma, a Bangalore-based techie, who was camping in Odisha capital since past 4-5 days with her relatives finally succeeded in winning her partner’s heart back.

The couple, who chose to stay away from media glare, remarried at Siddheswar temple, 25 km from Bhubaneswar. Earlier in the day, the two families reached the Pipli Notary office for marriage registration at around 11 am. At around 3 pm, the marriage was held at the temple in the presence of relatives from both sides and members of a social organisation.

Now, as they both have entered into wedlock, the girl has put conditions to withdraw the FIR lodged in a Bangalore police station after six months of staying together.

The five-year long love affair had turned bitter after Odisha boy Amit Pattnaik refused to accept Sheetal as his wife. It all started with the now-defunct online social networking site Orkut where they befriended and eventually fell in love which materialised in a marriage, the girl had claimed.

Later, the Odia boy reneged on their marital vows and ditched his companion for undisclosed reasons.

The unrelenting techie, on a search mission, had landed in Odisha capital with her relatives to trace him for reconciliation. However, upon rounds of confrontation between the duo, the young boy remained non-commital and sought two-months time to take a call on the issue.

Finding not even a speck of hope of mending ties, the Sharmas had approached a city-based NGO, Nari Sachetan Mancha, for mediation. Even after four-long hours of counselling, the girl was vehemently insisting on a quick settlement.  The sessions were also attended by Sheetal’s cousins, her aunt and Amit’s father. Finally, the Patnaiks gave in to the Sharmas demands and accepted Sheetal as their bride.

According to reports, Sheetal had earlier filed an FIR with Madiwala police in Bangalore under section 498(A) of IPC which deals with dowry law. Later, the local court had stayed Amit’s second marriage plea. The court’s stay on marriage plea gives an impression that the court validates their marriage, Sheetal said.
