OPGC gets CSR award for sustainable drinking water project

Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC) was honoured at the Odisha CSR conclave here on Saturday for its ‘sustainable drinking water project’ in the periphery villages of Ib Thermal Power Station in Jharsuguda district. OPGC

Director (Finance) of OPGC HP Nayak received the certificate and trophy from the chief guest and Steel and Mines minister Rajanikant Singh on the occasion.

The conclave, organised by Think Media Inc, New Delhi, aims at sharing information on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives by the corporates in Odisha and embedding CSR in the business strategy to make it a tool for sustainable development.

OPGC has successfully implemented sustainable drinking water project  in the periphery villages of IB Thermal Power Station in Jharsuguda district through community ownership and management .

This innovative CSR model has brought a sustainable solution to the long standing problems of the local community.

17 villages in the periphery of Ib Thermal Power Station are connected with safe and potable water directly from the drinking water facility of the company’s 420MW power plant.

Besides, 20 more villages get the facility of safe drinking water through tankers provided by OPGC every summer.

The project has successfully integrated CSR into the core business strategy of the company by creating and maintaining community participation and ownership among the beneficiaries.
