OPHWC official Pratap Samal found in possession of 22 plots, 3 buildings during Vigilance raid
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials today unearthed as many as 25 immovable properties worth crores, including 22 plots and 3 buildings, possessed by Odisha Police Housing & Welfare Corporation (OPHWC) Deputy Manager Pratap Kumar Samal and his wife Sasmita Samal during raids.
The properties include 17 plots and two buildings in Bhubaneswar and Khurda. The technical team of the Vigilance will carry out the valuation of the properties.
Moments before raid by the Vigilance, the official reportedly tried to dispose unaccounted cash and threw a bag containing around Rs 20 lakh to an abandoned building near his house. The Vigilance later seized the bag and cash.
Vigilance officials also seized Rs 38.12 lakh in cash from the house of Samal here.
Odisha Vigilance officials today raided multiple places in connection with allegation against Pratap Kumar Samal regarding possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Sleuths of the agency carried out simultaneous raids at a triple storeyed building in IRC Village, Bhubaneswar, a six storeyed building located opposite of Maa Bhagabati Temple, Biju Pattanaik College Chhak, Jayadev Vihar, Bhubaneswar, a single storeyed building in Sarakantra, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar given on rent, a flat on second floor, Narendra Villa, Jayadev Vihar, Bhubaneswar, a three storeyed apartment namely Ananya Towers at Balisahi, Basudevpur, Bhadrak, temporary residence of his associate at Ananya Towers, native house of Samal at Haripur, Simulia, Balasore, house of relative at Haripur, Simulia, Balasore and office of Samal located at OPHWC, Bhubaneswar.
As many as 10 teams of Odisha Vigilance conducted the searches on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
Till last reports came in, the raids were underway and calculation of total value of his movable and immovable properties was yet to be completed.
