Orange alert: No respite from heat wave in these Odisha districts during next 3 days

Bhubaneswar: Despite the advancement of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of southern India, heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over some districts of Odisha during the next three days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre forecasted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD stated, “Southwest Monsoon advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Lakshadweep area and Kerala, Tamil Nadu, some parts of Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal and more parts of Central and Northwest Bay of Bengal. Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through 14°N/60°E, 14°N/65°E, 13.5°N/70°E, Mangalore, Chitradurga, Nellore, 14.5°N/82.5°E, 16°N/85°E, 21°N/90°E, 23°N/89.5°E and Islampur. Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Karnataka, Rayalaseema & Coastal Andhra Pradesh; some more parts of Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal during next 2 to 3 days.”

The highest maximum temperature of 46.0°C was recorded yesterday at Titilagarh. The lowest minimum temperature of 22.0°C was recorded at Nabarangpur in the plains of Odisha.

Temperature Forecast: A gradual fall in the Maximum (day) temperature by 2°C to 3°C during next two days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Subarnapur.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nuapada.

Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Odisha.
