Bhubaneswar: The President of India appointed Orissa High Court Judge Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Ministry of Law & Justice today.
Born in a 'Brahmin' family in Nayagarh district on July 20, 1962, Dr. Justice Sarangi completed his LL.B and LL.M from Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack. He was awarded the Ph.D in Law from Sambalpur University.
The recipient of various prizes and awards for academic achievements joined the Bar in December 1985 having regular practice in the High Court of Orissa, Cuttack and Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. He was a life member of Orissa High Court Bar Association, Civil Court Bar Association, Criminal Court Bar Association and Central Tribunal Bar Association, etc.
Dr. Justice Sarangi was conferred with the 'Haricharan Mukherjee Memorial Award' with Gold medal for the year 2002 for his outstanding performance and high standard of professional ethics as a lawyer.
During his 27-year practice at the Bar, he had actively participated with various philanthropic, social and religious organisations.
He was elevated to the Bench and sworn in as a Permanent Judge of Orissa High Court on June 20, 2013.
