Orissa HC judge Justice BP Ray passes away

Orissa High Court judge Justice Bhabani Prasad Ray passed away in Odisha’s Cuttack today. He was 61.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the demise of Justice Ray.

Several legal luminaries condoled the demise of Ray who had served as judge in Orissa High Court since 2014.

High Court and lower courts across the state will remain closed tomorrow as a mark of respect to Justice Ray.

Justice Bhabani Prasad Ray, popularly known as ‘Felu Bhai’ was elevated to the bench of Orissa High Court in November 2007 after over 25 years of professional practice in Constitutional, criminal, civil and taxation law. Justice Ray was then transferred to Kerala High Court in October 2010 and was continuing there till he was transferred here in March 2014.

Born on March 2, 1955 in Shibapur village of Biridi Block in Jagatsinghpur, Justice Ray obtained a degree in Law from Utkal University Law College in Bhubaneswar.

He started his practice in 1979 in constitutional law, civil and criminal law and taxation law. He also served as additional standing counsel of Commercial Taxes for three years.
