Osmania medical students win SOA QuizWiz contest in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26:

Syed Mustafa Hashmi and Syed Murutza Hashmi, representing the Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, lifted the first prize of Rs 1 lakh in the third edition of SOA QuizWiz, a national-level quiz event for students at the Odisha-based SOA University today.

SOA QuizRushabh Menon and Prateek Vijayvargia of IIT, Chennai, won the second prize of Rs 60,000 in the high-voltage contest while Omkar Amruthansu and Abhinav Dhar of KIIT University finished third to win a purse of Rs 40,000.

All the winners were presented with trophies as well.

From a record entry of 136 teams from all over the country, six teams entered the final. The three teams who failed a podium finish were presented with consolation prizes of Rs 5,000 each.

The three teams comprised Jyoti Prakash Panda and Snehashis Panda (Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar), Soumya Ranjan Mohanty and Adarsh Kumar Mohapatra (DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur) and Satwik Rout (IIIT, Bhubaneswar) and Rashmi Ranjan Swain (OUAT).

Well-known quiz master from New Delhi, Kunal Savarkar conducted the event which included a preliminary phase to select the top six and the final round.

The event, held only for undergraduate students so far, was thrown open to Plus Two students this year who strove hard to find the answers to the tough questions.

Prof Damodar Acharya, chairman of SOA University’s Advisory Board, was present at the event while the cheques and trophies were presented to the winners by Ravi Kumar, director (HR) of I-Gate Global Solutions, in the presence of ITER’s additional dean, Dr RK Hota.

Teams from different parts of the country including two from IIT, Chennai, one each from IIT, Kharagpur, NIT, Rourkela, VSS University of Technology, Burla and BIT, Mesra took part in the contest.
