OUAT orders sine die closure of Agriculture, Vet colleges

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Mar 27: The Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) authorities on Wednesday ordered sine die closure of Agriculture and Veterinary colleges here following clashes between student groups over the past few days, sources said.

While the semester exams have been postponed, boarders have been asked to vacate the hostels by evening.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the OUAT academic council presided by the vice-chancellor Dr Manoranjan Kar.

It may be noted that a group of students of the Veterinary College had clashed with another student group from the Agriculture College last Friday following an altercation over a petty issue.

All efforts by the university authorities to resolve the conflict through a reconciliation between students from both the colleges had failed, sources in the OUAT said.

It may be noted here that there is a long history of conflict between students belonging to the two OUAT colleges, often leading to clashes and affecting the peace in the campus.
