OUAT students protest demand for 100 % reservation for AHO post

Bhubaneswar: Protesting horticulture students’ demand for 100 per cent reservation in recruitment to Assistant Horticulture Officer (AHO) post, students of Agriculture Department of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) today staged a demonstration on the university premise today.

Holding placards, the agitating students locked the main gate and sat on a dharna as a mark of protest. They also protested the horticulture students’ demand for eligibility for Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO) post. Farmers will not get any benefit if horticulture students become AAO. The demands of the horticulture students are completely baseless, said an agitator.

“Without working hard, the horticulture students are seeking for reservation, which is nothing other than ‘fear’, said an agitating student. The agitators also threatened that they would continue their stir in coming days if the authorities do not intervene into the matter,” said an agitating student.

When asked, the varsity authorities said a committee has been formed to sort out the issue.
