Over 12K divorced women applied for financial aid from Odisha Govt: Minister

Puri has highest 2379 applicants, of which 2237 are being sanctioned with the monthly allowance under MBPY.  

Bhubaneswar: More than 12,000 divorced and deserted women in Odisha have applied for financial assistance from the state Government under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) since July, 2019.

Minister of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SS&EPwD) Ashok Chandra Panda informed this in the Assembly.

Replying to a question raised by MLA Naba Charan Majhi, the Minister on Saturday informed that a total of 12,022 divorced and deserted women in Odisha have applied for monthly allowance of Rs 500 under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) since July 23, 2019. Of the total applications, 9,848 have been sanctioned till yet while remaining  2174  applicants are yet to get the financial benefit.

The district-wise data shared by the Minister shows that Puri district has highest 2379 applicants, of which 2237 are being sanctioned with the monthly allowance till yet. Puri is followed by Balasore and Koraput with 2001 and 1070 applicants, respectively.

Deogarh district has received lowest 42 applications, out of which 32 have been sanctioned since July 23, 2019.
