Over 14k people cured from COVID-19 without treatment in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Amidst apprehensions of community transmission due to steep increase in COVID-19 cases despite enforcement of shutdown and lockdown in Odisha capital, over 14,000 residents have been cured from the disease without undergoing any treatment.

According to a survey conducted by Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar, on an average 1.42% people in the city have developed antibody in them suggesting that they have been cured after being infected with the coronavirus.

If the total population in Bhubaneswar is 10 lakh, around 14,200 residents have recovered from COVID-19 so far, showed an RMRC sero-survey interim report.

This indicated that neither have they developed COVID-19 symptoms, nor have undergone any test to detect it even though they had contracted infection without their knowledge. But, they have been cured from the disease automatically.

Recently, Bhubaneswar unit of ICMR had conducted a serological survey to indentify the prevalence of COVID-19 in the population as well as antibodies developed in them. Out of 951 samples collected for the test, 15 were found seropositive.

However, the report contradicts to COVID-19 data shared by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). As per BMC report, total 1343 infected persons detected so far in Bhubaneswar, of which 724 have recovered from the disease so far.

On the contrary, the RMRC serological survey interim report showed that around 1285 persons infected with the deadly virus have recovered in the city so far.
