Over 20 children fall sick after being administered deworming medication in Odisha’s Cuttack

Salepur: Some children were administered deworming medication by the Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department at Asureswar high school of Nischintakoili block in Cuttack district, today. However, more than 20 of them fell sick and were later admitted to a nearby health facility for treatment.

According to a source, the schoolchildren became ill after being administered the drug. Some locals with the help of a few assistant teachers of the school immediately rushed the children to hospital.

The sick ones are undergoing treatment at the community health centre (CHC) in Nischintakoili.

“Health condition of the children is improving,” a doctor treating the schoolchildren at the CHC expressed.

“Out of the schoolchildren who were given deworming tablets earlier in the day, around 20 showed side effects. Some of them had head reeling and some others had vomiting tendencies,” an assistant teacher of the school Manas Chandra Pradhan said mediaperons.

“Total number of sick students may increase as they are coming one after another,” Pradhan added.

‘We were informed by the Asha Didi that our children have fallen sick,” a female parent alleged.

Worth mentioning, the medication was given on the occasion of National Deworming Day which is observed on February 10 every year in all states and Union Territories (UTs) in the country.
