Over 2k migrants to reach Odisha today; curfew imposed in Titilagarh

Titilagarh: In view of stranded migrants returning to Odisha in special trains from other states today, Balangir district administration has imposed curfew in Titilagarh town to deter people from gathering on roads.

The curfew will be in force from 9.00 am to 12.00 midnight in Titilagarh town.

According to reports, two special trains with over 2000 migrant labourers stranded in Maharashtra and Karnataka due to COVID-19 lockdown will reach Titilagarh Railway Station on Sunday. While panic has spread among residents in the town, the district administration has made elaborate arrangements to bring the returnees from railway station to institutional quarantine centres to contain possible spread of novel coronavirus in Balangir.

Source said each train carrying around 1200 labourers will arrive at Titilagarh today. They will undergo medical check-up following registration at temporary medical camp set up in Titilagarh. They will be sent to the quarantine centres from the camp by buses. Their movement will be monitored through CCTV and drone after they reach the railway station.

Besides, local police and GRF personnel will also be deployed not to allow the returnees to move anywhere after they alight at the station.
