Over 30 houses gutted after youth sets own house on fire in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Kamakhyanagar: More than 30 kutcha houses located in Patharakhamba village under Kamakhyanagar police limits of Dhenkanal district were completely gutted today after a youth allegedly set his own house on fire following a feud with his family.

According to an eyewitness, the blaze broke out from the house of Sarat Naik and gradually spread to nearby houses in the village as an LPG gas tank blasted in the incident, thereby stoking the fire.

Within a very short span of time, the entire locality was engulfed in the blaze, the eyewitness stated.

“Exact cause behind the inferno has not been ascertained yet. Two teams of fire services personnel from Parjang and Kamakhyanagar were engaged to douse the flames,” a senior police official said.

Assets and belongings worth lakhs of rupees have been reduced to ashes, the police official added.

“Polythene sheets will be provided to the villagers, who have become homeless. We are also trying to immediately arrange dry foods for the affected residents,” Muktapasi RI Suphala Nayak expressed.
