Over 40 houses damaged in landslide after incessant rain in Odisha’s Gajapati

Gumma: Over 40 houses have been damaged after landslide due to incessant rainfall for over 24 hours in Odisha’s Gajapati district.

Overnight rains resulted in landslide from Mukhalinga mountain which severely damaged 20 houses and partially damaged as many houses in the Kulanga village of Badakalakot panchayat under Gumma block in the district.

Besides causing extensive damage to the properties, over 150 cattle and goats have died after coming under the debris. The incident took place around 7.15 am today.

Badakalakot Sarpanch Augustine Gamang informed the block authorities about the incident owing which BDO Natabar Garad, Block chairman Gajendra Gamang, vice chairman Gitanjali Raita, zilla parishad member Himanshu Kumar Lima reached the spot to assess the situation.

Seeing the misery of the devastated families, the officials make temporary arrangement at a church nearby. Cooked food was provided to the distressed families, sources said.

Road connectivity has been cut off after landslide at P Antarada of Keredanga panchayat under Nuagada block in the district. Following this, commuters were unable to travel from Nuagada to Keredanga.

A well marked low pressure in the Bay of Bengal has intensified due to which several districts are experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state.
