Over 50 pc sitting Lok Sabha MPs from Odisha denied tickets ahead of 2024 polls

Bhubaneswar: Over 50 per cent sitting Lok Sabha (LS) MPs from Odisha have been denied tickets ahead of the 2024 Parliamentary elections in the country.

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has denied tickets to as many as 8 Lok Sabha MPs of its total 12 in Odisha. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dropped 4 sitting MPs of the total 8 in Odisha ahead of the 2024 elections.

However, the Congress party has re-nominated its lone Lok Sabha MP from Koraput Saptagiri Ulaka from the same seat for the upcoming polls.

Altogether 12 Lok Sabha MPs of the total 21 in Odisha have been denied tickets ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary elections in India.

The Naveen-Patnaik laid BJD has denied tickets to sitting Lok Sabha MPs Bhartruhari Mahtab (Cuttack), Pinaki Mishra (Puri), Anubhav Mohanty (Kendrapara), Chandra Sekhar Sahu (Berhampur), Pramila Bisoyi (Aska), Ramesh Chandra Majhi (Nabarangpur), Chandrani Murmu (Keonjhar) and Mahesh Sahoo (Dhenkanal).

The BJD has fielded former corporate executive Santrupt Misra from Cuttack LS seat, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik from Puri, former MLA Ansuman Mohanty from Kendrapara, Bhrugu Baxipatra from Berhampur, Ranjita Sahu from Aska, former MP Pradeep Majhi from Nabarangpur, Dhanurjay Siddu from Keonjhar and Avinash Samal from Dhenkanal.

However, the ruling party has picked Nabarangpur MP Ramesh Chandra Majhi to fight the upcoming Assembly elections in Odisha from Jharigaon segment.

The BJP has not given tickets to Union Minister and Mayurbhanj MP Bisweshwar Tudu, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari, Sambalpur MP Nitesh Ganga Deb and Kalahandi MP Basanta Kumar Panda ahead of 2024 polls.

The party has picked Naba Charan Majhi for Mayurbhanj LS seat, former MLA Pradeep Purohit for Bargarh, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for Sambalpur and Malvika Keshari Deo for Kalahandi.

The BJP has given ticket to Pujari from Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency and fielded Panda’s son Abhinandan Panda from Nuapada seat.

The BJP has picked six-time MP Mahtab as its candidate from Cuttack LS seat for 2024 elections soon after he joined the party.
