Over 50,000 fake mobile connections disconnected in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As many as 51,260 fake mobile connections issues by different telecom operators have been disconnected in Odisha.

The action was taken following reverification of the suspected mobile connections used for various illegal activities.

According to a release by Ministry of Communications, the AI based facial recognition tool called ASTR conceptualized and implemented by Department of Telecommunication for Telecom SIM Subscriber Verefication identified 52,088 suspected mobile connections in Odisha, of which 51,260 connections disconnected.

As per the directions of DoT Odisha, the suspected mobile connections were re-verified by the concerned telecom operators. During the reverification, 51,260 connections were found non bonafide and disconnected.

Based on analysis, a total of 2,417 point of sales SIM sellers who were involved in such fraudulent activities have been blacklisted, stated DoT Odisha in a release today.

Further, police complaints have been made for investigation and taking necessary action against the culprits.

The steps taken as above will help prevent the usage of such fake forged mobile connections for various illegal activities including cybercrime in Odisha, the release said.
