Over Rs 14.5 lakh looted from liquor shop staff in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Sources said Prasant had collected money from a local businessman's house at Koel Nagar and was headed towards Udit Nagar on his two-wheeler when he was intercepted by two bike-borne miscreants near the municipal corporation office at around 9 am.

Rourkela: In a broad daylight robbery, miscreants looted Rs 14.93 lakh from a man at gunpoint in Rourkela city of Sundargarh district in Odisha here today. The victim was identified as Prasant Biswal, a staff at a liquor shop.

Sources said Prasant had collected money from a local businessman’s house at Koel Nagar and was headed towards Udit Nagar on his two-wheeler when he was intercepted by two bike-borne miscreants near the municipal corporation office at around 9 am. One of the miscreants stepped out and held a gun to his head while another pointed a knife towards his stomach before snatching the cash and fleeing the spot.

Following the incident, Prasant filed a case with Udit Nagar police and a case has been registered. Police have started investigation but locals have raised questions on the security arrangement as the heist was carried out in the presence of a bustling crowd during daytime.
