Over Rs 2 Cr fine collected for COVID-19 rules violation in Odisha’s Twin City

Bhubaneswar: Even after strict implementation of COVID-19 rules to contain spread of deadly virus,  the Commissionerate Police has collected over Rs 2 crore fine in five months for defying coronavirus rules in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

A total sum of Rs 2,42,80,185 (Two Crore Forty-Two Lakh Eighty Thousand One Hundred Eighty-Five) has been collected between April and September from violators on charges of not wearing face mask, not maintaining social distancing norms and spitting at public places.

In view of steep hike in COVID-19 cases in Twin City – Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the police has decided to strengthen the COVID restrictions and take stringiest action by new Traffic DCP Soumya Mishra against people for flouting the rules.

Source said that the plans have been made to identify violators through the cameras installed at major traffic posts and strong vigil will be kept on the commuters breaching the COVID-19 rules.
