Over Rs 70 crore loss for twin city in Cyclone Phailin

The Cyclone Phailin has caused an extensive loss of over Rs 70 crore to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).

According to a preliminary report submitted to the state government, BDA and BMC have suffered a loss of Rs 48 crore and Rs 22.25 crore respectively.

The loss to the road connectivity in city managed by the BMC alone was to the tune of Rs 10 crore, while the loss to its parks and colonies stood at Rs 2.5 crore. Besides, damages in drainage system were estimated to be worth Rs 1 crore.

On the other hand, of the total loss of Rs 48 crore by the BDA, Rs 44 crore was due to damages of road connectivity, Rs 1.6 crore due to the damages to the parks and Rs 1.3 crore for electricity wreckages.

The loss of horticulture was estimated at Rs 1.3 crore.
