“The bus was overloaded. It was carrying 69 passengers while its stated capacity was 46.  The accident was caused due to speed and rash driving of the bus driver. The biker suddenly rubbing past the bus in a careless manner is also the cause of the mishap,” informed Angul Collector Anil Kumar Samal here today.

Samal’s statement was based on the report of the three-member committee he had formed yesterday to probe the accident.

The Collector on Tuesday evening had formed a three-member committee comprising of Angul Sub Collector, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and Regional Transport Officer (RTO) to probe the accident in which six persons were killed.

Samal had asked the committee to submit its probe report by Wednesday.
