Padampur Bypoll: Voting to be held from 7 am to 4 pm

Bhubaneswar: Voting for bypoll to the Padampur Assembly Constituency in Odisha’s Bargarh district will be held from 7 am to 4 pm on the scheduled day (December 5).

A decision in this regard was taken at an all-party meeting chaired by the Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha here today.

The polling duration was reduced in view of the winter season and Maoist threat.

In a related development, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today fielded Barsha Singh Bariha, daughter of late MLA Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha, as its candidate for the bypoll.

The BJP and Congress have named Pradip Purohit and Satya Bhusan Sahu as their nominees for the bypoll, respectively.

The bypoll was necessitated after the demise of BJD MLA Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on October 2.

Notably, the voting for the bypoll will be held on December 5 while results are scheduled to be declared on December 8.

While the last date of filing nomination papers is November 17, scrutiny of the papers will be held on November 18.

The last date of withdrawing candidature is November 21.
