Paddy MSP hike issue: BJD’s farmers’ wing to stage mass dharna in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal Krushak Sammukhya (BJDKS), the farmers’ wing of Odisha’s ruling party-Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today announced to stage mass dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan here on November 27 to protest against Centre’s refusal to hike minimum support price (MSP) of paddy.

“BJD Krushak Sammukhya will hold a mass dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan on November 27 to protest against Centre’s refusal to hike MSP of paddy. BJD leaders and farmers in large numbers will take part in the mass dharna which will begin at 11 AM. We will submit a memorandum to the President of India through the Governor,” informed BJD vice president Debi Prasad Mishra addressing a presser here today.

“BJD has asked Centre to seek apology from farmers. If Centre fails to meet our demand by November 27 we will start agitation in all 30 districts,” said BJD general secretary Sanjay Das Burma.

The Centre should make its stand clear by November 27, he added.

Worth mentioning here, Deputy Economic Adviser in the Directorate of Economics and Statistics under the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in a letter addressed to Rohit Pujari of BJD Krushak Sammukhya recently said that paddy farmers in Odisha are getting adequate return over their cost of production and there was no need to further enhance the MSP for paddy.
