Paddy MSP: Odisha Assly House panel to seek fresh date with PM

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, May 26:

The House Committee of Odisha Assembly will make another attempt to seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi by June 30 to put forth its demand for a hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy.

“The House Committee will seek another date with the Prime Minister by June 30 to discuss the issue of increasing MSP of paddy,” informed Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout after the House Committee’s meeting here today.

The House Committee meeting chaired by Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat decided to make a fresh effort to get an appointment from the Prime Minister as it failed to get any response from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) earlier.

“The PMO did not give time to the House Committee even though an appointment was sought earlier,” alleged Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma.

It may be mentioned here that the State Assembly had on March 25 last unanimously adopted a resolution recommending the state government to demand Centre for increasing MSP of paddy from existing Rs 1,470 per quintal to Rs 2,930.
