Padmapur sub-division in Odisha’s Bargarh to be a separate district: BJD MLA

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Bhatli MLA Susanta Singh today said his party always supports the demand for formation of a separate Padmapur district by bifurcating Bargarh district in Odisha.

“An action committee for separate Padmapur district has met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and held discussions on the issue. Padmapur sub-division has vast geographical area under its territorial jurisdiction. The BJD has full support for the demand for carving out a separate Padmapur district from Bargarh,” said Singh, a former minister.

Former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik had divided the erstwhile Sambalpur district into four separate districts during the reorganization of districts in Odisha in 1990s, Singh said.

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has assured us that Padmapur would be carved as a separate district during the next reorganisation of districts in Odisha. The action committee will continue its fight for a separate Padmapur district,” Singh said.
