Pakistani politician marries 18-year-old girl on day his second wife announces divorce

Islamabad/Bhubaneswar: Pakistani politician Aamir Liaquat married an 18-year-old girl called Syeda Dania Shah, 31 years his junior, triggering a barrage of memes on social media.

A member of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Liaquat took to Instagram on Thursday to announce his wedding.

“Last night tie[d] a knot with, Syeda Dania Shah, 18, she is belong to an honourable Najeeb ut Tarfain “Sadaat” Family of Lodhran, South Punjab, saraiki lovely, charming, simple and darling. I would like to request all of my well wishers, please pray for us, I have just passed the dark tunnel, it was a wrong turn,” Liaquat wrote on Instagram.

Incidentally, this is Liaquat’s third wedding which took place on the same day on which his second wife announced their divorce.

The couple had been very public about their relationship on social media. Syeda too has flooded her social media handles with pictures with Liaquat.

In a recent interview, when a podcaster asked Syeda when was the first time she realised that she was in love with Liaquat, she said: “In childhood. I used to watch him on the TV. Whenever I used to cry, my parents would show me his images on the TV.”

According to reports, the couple got married on Wednesday. Earlier that day, Pakistani actress Tuba Aamir, his second wife, had confirmed their divorce. Tuba Aamir revealed that they had been separated for the past 14 months.

“After a separation of 14 months, it was evident that there was no hope of reconciliation and I had to opt to take Khullah from Court,” she shared on social media.
