Panchayat Executive Officer arrested on rape charges in Odisha

Jaipatna: Jaipatna Police in Kalahandi district has arrested a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) on rape charges and forwarded him to a local court, police informed it today.

Nirakar Nayak, the PEO of Badkarlakot Gram Panchayat under Jaipatna police limits, is accused of raping a woman at her home at Irrigation Colony, Mukhiguda.

According to reports, Nayak was residing at sector 2 of Irrigation Colony at Mukhiguda area while he was posted as the PEO of Badkarlakot GP. The woman complainant was also staying at the same locality.

As per the complaint filed at the police station, on April 28, Nayak raped the woman resident while she was alone at home.

Based on allegation, the Jaipatna Police initiated probe into the incident and arrested the accused PEO on charges of raping the woman. The accused has been produced before the court, Jaipatna IIC Rashmita Pradhan informed.
