Paradip murder: Odisha Cong leader Bapi Sarkhel arrested, sent to jail

Paradip, Nov 18:

Hours after surrendering before Raghunathpur police station, Congress leader Arindam Sarkhel alias Bapi was today arrested for his alleged complicity in the murder of a senior executive of a stevedoring company.

According to reports, the trade union leader turned politician was produced before Kujang JMFC court following his arrest.

Sarkhel was sent to Kujang Sub Jail as his bail plea was rejected.

“He was arrested under section 302, 120 (B), 34 of IPC. After his arrest, he was produced before JMFC court. Later, he was sent to 14-day judicial custody as his bail plea was rejected,” Nalini Ranjan Das, public prosecutor said.

Earlier in the day, Sarkhel surrendered before Raghunathpur police station from where he was taken to Paradip police station for questioning.

A lookout circular was issued against him for his alleged involvement in the murder of Mahendra Swain, General Manager of Hyderabad-based Seaways Shipping and Logistics Limited (SSLL).
