Bhubaneswar: A day after father of deceased Paralakhemundi Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Saumya Ranjan Mohapatra met DGP Abhay seeking an appropriate probe into the death case, a three-member team of Crime Branch visited Gajapati district today.
Following an order by DGP, the Crime Branch team led by DSP Bijay Kumar Mallick met the Gajapati SP and held talks. The investigating agency stated the three-member team was deputed to Gajapati to assist the district police in the investigation into the Paralakhemundi ACF death case.
Abhiram Mohapatra, father of Saumya Ranjan accused involvement of Bidyabharati, wife of the ACF; a cook and Gajapati DFO Sangram Keshari Behera in his son’s death case. Also, he urged the DGP to conduct polygraph test of the three persons yesterday.
Abhiram also met the Odisha PCCF seeking transfer of the Gajapati DFO for an impartial probe into the ACF death case. He told media persons a grievance letter will be sent to the Chief Minister by post as well.
The Gajapati Police team which has been investigating the ACF death case visited Khaira in Balasore district and questioned the family members of Saumya Ranjan for over three hours yesterday. Also, a six-member team of police went to Bidyabharati’s house in Gaudagaon under Kaptipada block as part of the investigation.
An official of the police team said as the questioning did not conclude, the cops arrived at the paternal house of Bidyabharati today.
On July 12 evening, the critically burnt Paralakhemundi ACF was admitted to the Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the SCB hospital in Cuttack in a 108 ambulance and later to the Ashwini Hospital where he succumbed on July 13 morning.
A case under section 302 and 120 (b) has been registered at Paralakhemundi police station.
