Dasamantapur: An elderly man suffering from paralysis is carried a distance of 8 kilometres by his son on the shoulder up to Dasamantapur block office every month to collect the beneficiary's old age pension in Koraput district.

Interestingly, the octogenarian gets a pension of Rs 500 only as per the State government norms.

The SSEPD beneficiary (Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities) identified as 80-year-old Pita Muduli from Jadaputa village of Pindapadar panchayat under this block has been suffering from paralysis for nearly five years. He is unable to move a furlong on his own.

“I and my husband were earlier working as daily wagers to eke out our living and meet the household expenses. After we became uncle to move, we had to depend on others. However, I am a little bit able to walk with the support of a walking stick,” the elderly man’s wife Suai Muduli expressed.

When contacted, BDO Milan Kumar Jhankar said, “No such incident has come to my knowledge, so far, that a physically challenged man is coming to this office for his pension. We will certainly make necessary arrangements to send the pension money to the beneficiary’s house from the coming month onwards.”
