Parcel bomb blast: Suspect to undergo polygraph test in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In ongoing investigation into parcel bomb blast that claimed two lives including a newlywed groom in Patnagarh of Balangir district, the suspect detained in connection with the case will undergo polygraph test here.

Balangir police is making preparation to bring the suspect to Bhubaneswar and conduct polygraph test on him in one or two days, said a senior police official.

According to reports, police detained a person identified as Rinku Panda of Boudh district in connection with the case. He is accused of threatening Soumyasekhar on phone few days ago.

Police is planning to conduct lie-detector test on him due to altered statements he is making before police.

On the other hand, a team of Patnagarh police has reached Bhubaneswar for further probe into the parcel bomb explosion.

Reports said that Soumyasekhar Sahu, who succumbed to injuries after the parcel exploded at his residence, was studying engineering at Gandhi Institute for Technological Advancement (GITA) College, located on Bhubaneswar outskirts. The police team is interrogating the college authorities to find out scoop that might have link in the case.

Recently, two teams of police had visited Bengaluru and Raipur for probe into the case. The teams have returned Odisha with some clues on basis of which the accused will be arrested and matter will be exposed soon, police sources said.

Notably, the parcel bomb blast caused major casualties when Soumyasekhar unwrapped the gift packet sent at his residence through SkyKing courier service on Feb 23. It exploded seriously wounding the newlywed couple Soumyasekhar and Reema and the groom’s grandmother Jemamani. While Jemamani succumbed to her injuries on the way to Balangir hospital, the groom died while taken to Burla Hospital. Wife Reema is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
