Parents lock main gate of UP school running sans teachers in Sundargarh

Rourkela: A number of local parents today locked the main gate of Brahmani Nagar upper primary (UP) school located under Rourkela Municipal Corporation limits in Sundargarh district in protest, after their prolonged demand to appoint new teachers was not met.

A source said that the school was facing acute crunch of teachers. Tension hovering on Brahmani Nagar locality over the issue of school running sans teachers took an ugly turn leading to the protest.

After the school opened for today, the parents from Balighat along with a few intelligentsia congregated in front of it. Later, they staged an agitation and shouted slogans against neglect of local administration.

According to the source, the government-run school has more than 200 students. Daily attendance of the students is around 85 per cent. However, there are only two teachers in the educational institution, including its headmaster.

Alleging over the shortage of teaching staff, Balighat residents had previously run from pillar to post. A written complaint was recently handed over to Bisra block education officer (BEO), but to no avail.
