Sambalpur: Parents of baby girl 'Bijayini', who was rescued from an abandoned borewell in Rengali area of Odisha's Sambalpur district, have been identified, said SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo.
"The mother of the baby is not mentally sound. The woman is undergoing treatment at the SCB Hospital in Cuttack. She hails from Rengali area," the police official said.
"The parents of the child confessed before police that the baby is theirs. The woman had thrown the baby into the borewell after 5-6 hours of the birth. The survivor is their second baby. The DNA sample of the two will be collected for test," the SP said.
"Further investigation into the matter will be carried out after the recovery of the baby's mother," he added.
The baby was rescued from the abandoned well at Laripali under Rengali police limits on December 12.
She has been undergoing treatment at VIMSAR in Burla.
Doctors at the healthcare facility yesterday celebrated the naming ceremony of the baby girl by cutting cake and distributing sweets. She was named 'Bijayini'.
